35 Inspiring Quotations from Albert Einstein

Albert Einstein - Quotes

Due to his brilliance, Albert Einstein was often called upon to offer opinions on many topics beyond the realm of physics. This accounts for the wide range of inspired quotations attributed to him.

Albert Einstein (March 14, 1879 – April 18, 1955), the famous theoretical physicist, developed the theory of relativity and is considered the father of modern physics.   The nuclear physicist Robert Oppenheimer shared his impressions of Einstein by saying, “He was almost wholly without sophistication and wholly without worldliness . . . There was always with him a wonderful purity at once childlike and profoundly stubborn.”

I think this sense of wonder mixed with native intelligence comes through so clearly in Einstein’s best quotations.  Enjoy!

  1. I love AB and he always came out with profound comments, I think you may have said one twice – “Few are those who see with their own eyes and feel with their own hearts.”

I always forget that I share the same birthday as him, that forever now be my claim to fame! :-P

Thank you for the lovely post Sandra x

  2. Hi Amit,

So nice to see you! I’m so happy these quotes struck a special chord for you. Thanks for the heads up on the repeated quote. Though perhaps it deserves to be repeated twice! It’s nice to share a birthday with someone so notable; it can bring us special inspiration.

    Sending you love and appreciation.

  3. These are great, Sandra, even if there are only 35. When I saw the repeat of #1 as #4, I thought it might have been a moment of Buddhist humor (since the quote involves seeing), but then I saw that #32 and #33 were also the same. I figured you missed them.

  4. Hi Sandra,

Albert Einstein is such an iconic figure. His ways of thinking provide deep insights into life.

I particularly like the following quotes:

“Everything should be as simple as it is, but not simpler.”

-It is necessary to keep things in life simple. If it is too complicated, it ends up creating confusion. The simplest methods that are easy to apply to any situation are usually best.

“I want to go when I want. It is tasteless to prolong life artificially. I have done my share, it is time to go. I will do it elegantly.”

-This is truly wise. Few understand the importance of timing and many overstay their welcome. We need only look at the unrest that led to the Arab Spring.

Thank you for sharing this lovely article! :)

  9. Do you see an undoubtable connection to religion, science and life as we know it?

[What you should know is that what inspired me to ask this question is purely based on one of my most favourite quotes of what Albert Einstein once said: "Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind."]

Would you agree with one of the greatest geniuses to ever live or would you beg to differ?

(taken in to account that Einstein was indeed Agnostic)

(any respectful and logical thoughts would be appreciated)

    • I do agree that there is a connection between the essence of religion, science, and life as we know it. It related to how everything is interdependent and interconnected. Yes, I do agree with Einstein if we are looking at religion as a spiritual perspective rather than a dogmatic one. Thanks for this new quote!

  10. Great quotes although this list misses the one I most know Einstein by and that is the one he used against Noels Bohr in a debate on quantum theory…”God does not play dice”

      • Your welcome Sandra. Being a philosopher I’m a bit of an Einstein fan, although am saddened by the latest findings that neurinos can travel faster than the speed of light which if true would render most of his work inaccuarte, thus meaning we would need to draw up a new basic model for physics and therefore how we understand the universe.

  12. My favourite is from Einstein’s chauffeur who, having heard the great man give the same speech many times had switched places with his passenger and delivered Einstein’s lecture in his place. A tricky moment arose at the end when a member of of the audience asked him a question about the fine detail of relativity – which is when the chauffer displayed his true intelligence.
“That’s such an easy question,” the chauffeur responded from the lecturn. “In fact, it’s so simple, I’m going to have my chauffeur answer for you.” And turned to where Einstein was lurking at the back, disguised beneath the chauffeur’s cap.

  13. Thank you Sandra,

Yes, Albert is one of my favourites, i am only sorry he invented anything to do with war, yea i am for peace but sometimes people need to be put in their place. I will say there is a lot of crap going on and if something could invented to reduce this that would be the best invention of all time, well as i am an inventor i must get cracking, thanks Pat. Let me leave you with one of mine.
