How I Lost 22 Pounds In 4 Months & Improved My Health

How I Lost 22 Pounds in 4 Months

I don’t believe that beauty depends on color, size, or shape.  Each of us is born with an inherited body type that ranges from skinny to medium build to curvy.  The sooner we reject modern propaganda about the perfect size, and embrace our own nature-given physique, the better.

This is not easy, I understand.  But only you can stop the self-hate and begin to love and accept your body as it is.  What better time than right now?

So I want to be clear I’m not writing this blog post to promote a specific body size or type as the “right” one.

I know for myself, however, that I don’t feel my best when I mindlessly let the pounds pile up from over eating sweets and carbs.  For me, eating the wrong foods in excess shows up as aches, pains, and fitful sleep.  My blood sugar markers increase, heading me straight toward pre-diabetes.  I feel like I have no will power or control.

But I was able to turn my weight gain around at the beginning of this year.  I lost 22 pounds in four months and have subsequently maintained the weight loss.  I know that there isn’t one “right” way to lose weight, but perhaps hearing my story will inspire you to begin and find the best way for you.

What Are You Willing to Do to Live a Long and Healthy Life?

Fat, Sick, & Nearly DeadMany of us live for immediate gratification, and find it hard to resist temptation.  Often, we fail to think ahead and consider the long-term impact of our choices, but just grab the candy bar or espresso for a much needed mid-afternoon pick-me-up.

But it’s not just about food.  It could be sitting at the computer too long, not getting enough sun, or letting stress get out of hand.

Can you relate?

Having a healthy and long life depends, to a large degree, on recognizing how an unhealthy choice in the moment will impact you not only in the next few hours, but in the future as well, and creating a new habit.

Of course, there are no guarantees, but generally speaking to live longer, it’s necessary to:

  • Decide you have a choice and will execute it
  • Take responsibility for you health
  • Recognize your actions have an impact

WILLPOWER: Rediscovering the Greatest Human Strength

Book Review:  Willpower:  Rediscovering the Greatest Human Strength by Roy F. Baumeister and John Tierney

I tend to be an impulsive person so I was automatically captivated by the title of this book:  Willpower.   Written by the pioneering research psychologist, Roy F. Baumeister, in collaboration with New York Times science writer, John Tierney, Willpower has proven its weight in gold.

One of the most powerful messages of Willpower – is that lack of self-control is an all-pervasive problem.  A challenge that is only escalating in these modern times when there are more temptations than ever.  In fact, one-fourth of our waking hours are spent resisting urges.

So if you find yourself low on willpower there’s no need to hide in embarrassment.  Almost everyone else is just like you.

That doesn’t mean developing willpower is a hopeless endeavor.  The authors provide reams of scientific evidence to the contrary.  And they outline the essential knowledge and tips you need to succeed.

There’s a very good reason to focus on willpower:  happiness.
