How to Go from Discouraged to Empowered in a Scary World

Light

Do you worry about the explosion of fear and violence around the world today?  It might seem like there’s no way out – the human race will implode, destroying everything else along with it.  In this scenario, attempts to foster love, compassion, tolerance and other spiritual values seem futile.

The humanitarian leader and spiritual teacher Sri Prem Baba sees the world differently.  He says we’re in the midst of a planet-wide transition from fear to trust, from isolation to union, from hatred to love.  If you were able to look through the eyes of spirit, you would see an increase in light in our world.

Prem Baba uses the metaphor of being asleep in a dark room to help us understand the outbreaks of needless violence that shock us again and again.

How to Soften Your Fear, Calm Your Heart, and Find Ease Again

How to soften fear through body awareness.

Recently, I’ve found myself asking, “What is the opposite of fear?”

Some people might say courage, but I think this could be a mistake when it comes to deeply embedded fear.  You can easily reinforce fearfulness or trauma by pushing yourself to be “courageous,” or trying to go too fast.

I find relaxation through body awareness a better starting point to counteract the kind of fear that’s been frozen in time, implanted in the body, and hidden in deeper recesses of the mind.  Fear is about contraction, isn’t it?  Whereas relaxation through body awareness allows for expansion.

11 Awesome Steps to Become Fearless and Powerful

Bridge to Ocean - Courage

Note:  This is a guest post from the unstoppable Tess Marshall from The Bold Life.

When we’re paralyzed by fear, we’re unable to do what needs to be done. We hesitate and procrastinate. We drag our feet and waste our time.

Without action, fear quickly spirals out of control.

We fear beginning relationships and we fear ending them. We fear quitting jobs and we fear starting new ones. We fear gaining weight and we fear losing it. We fear staying stuck and we fear moving forward.

If we’re not careful, we can quickly fall into living a life of dread, in which we fear everything and anything.

It’s all in our minds: the fear and the reasons why we don’t move forward. It’s in our thoughts, our beliefs and the stories we tell ourselves.

The best thing about this is that we not only have the power, but endless opportunities to change everything.

Unless we change things, we feel anxious and on-edge. Our hearts ache and our souls cry because we live lives without purpose and meaning. We delay our sense of calm and happiness, as a life without regrets slips away from us.

It’s time.
