Making Magic Happen

Magic Wand

Someone told me that I have a magical wand, a very magical wand.  But I need to use it fancifully not prosaically.

That prompted this week’s Question for Contemplation!

Do you feel like you can make magic happen?  If you had a magic wand, what would you transform within yourself or in your life?

This could be quite a profound question.  Of course, there might be practical things that pop immediately into mind.

But I suggest letting this one simmer a bit.  What would really make a positive difference in the deepest or strongest way?

Of course, if you just want a new car, I won’t object!  Sometimes, a practical item is the order of the day.  There’s no right or wrong answer, just what’s true for you.

Have fun.  And please share in the comments.

The Breath of Life

“The first tool for relaxing the body and removing the blockages in the life energy is the breath.  All we need at any moment is to exhale deeply and allow the new breath to enter our being naturally.  With every exhalation, we release piled-up stresses, physical tension, and FEAR.  Deep exhalation empties us so we can receive more fully the next inhalation and its life-giving energy.  Now the life energy can move more fluidly through out system.  We can be refreshed and enlivened by the breath – ‘the purified essence of life.’”

- Alice Burmeister, The Touch of Healing

Question for Reflection

When I read this selection, I was struck by how powerful the breath actually is.  It reminded me to tune into my breath.  I realized how little attention I give it.  How about you?

“How is your breathing?  Are you breathing consciously?  Do you tap into the power of the breath?

Your Energy Pie

Apple Pie

While our energy might seem boundless when we are young, in reality it’s limited.

I felt depleted one or two days this past week.  This led me to consider how I am dividing up my energy pie.  For example, thinking takes considerable energy.  It takes energy to work with challenging emotions and situations.  It takes energy to heal.  And we haven’t even started on work yet.

I was reminded that without making conscious choices, there’s the possibility of using up one’s fuel in the wrong areas. Or running dry.

Question for reflection:

How much energy do you have?  How do you want to use it?  What’s your energy pie look like?  Is it divided into the right pieces?

Why It’s Smart Not to Harm

It’s so easy to hurt someone’s feelings, don’t you think?

Recently, I did just that all because of a pop-up window.

Now, this isn’t a story about pop ups.  So I hope you will read it through to get the moral of the story.  It’s an important one, I feel.  And it might save you from creating a mess.

I feel annoyed by pop-up windows that appear when you visit a blog.  In fact, it’s interesting to see how much annoyance they bring up for me.

A big part of the problem is the fact that they appear each and every time I visit certain blogs.  I’ll be deeply into reading the article at hand when the pop up window flashes open obscuring the text.

Since I have a small screen, the magic spot marked “X” – to close the window -  is hidden above the top of the screen.  That means I have to stop reading, scroll up to close the box, then scroll back down and find my place in the text once again.  Annoying, right?

Many bloggers set their pop up window to only appear the first time you visit.  But, I didn’t know that at the time.  I just kept getting these windows every time I visited.  So you see, it really started to get on my nerves.

I found it so unfriendly.  I couldn’t imagine why any one would want to obscure their text – the very meat of their blog.  And some highly accomplished bloggers like Leo Babauta recommend against using pop ups altogether.

Now onto the main point of the story…
